Alan Thompson Wansbeck Matters bio Newbiggin Town Council

Wansbeck Matters presents a potted history of Newbiggin by the Sea.

Newbiggin by the Sea has made a remarkable comeback over the last 20 years.

In recent years, on a bright, summers day hundreds of cars would drive North past Woodhorn Village on their way to Seahouses, Bamburgh, Craster, Beadnell and Amble. Now more and more people are coming to Newbiggin by the Sea.

The replacement beach and the breakwater brought about the opportunity for further investment. The Heritage and Maritime Centre became a feature of our Community and it continues to attract many visitors each year.

Our coastline includes the East Sea sands and our Natural Bay.

Our ‘links’ golf course is a huge asset, and the Club is one of the oldest in the country.

Our fishing Heritage is an important part of our History and our Lifeboat House, the oldest operational Lifeboat House in the United Kingdom, is an important feature in our Community.

Our mining heritage is reflected by Woodhorn Museum and Visitor centre.

The Lifeboat House and the restored Rocket House offer a unique interest for Visitors. In Sandridge we also have what is possibly the only one up, one down fisherman’s dwelling house in the County.

We are now included as a destination for Tourists along with Seahouses, Bamburgh, Craster, Beadnell and Amble.

Newbiggin by the Sea now attracts Visitors and Holiday Makers from all parts. With some of the lowest priced seaside property in the Country and huge Employment opportunities from Industrial and Commercial Developments by British Volt and Nissan all within easy travelling distance on modern road and rail services. the value of property is booming and the future is bright.

Latest news. Plans are confirmed and we are to have our rail link and the Ashington Station replaced in the very near future.

Things can only get better for Newbiggin by the Sea.
